It's official - Kirby Smart to Georgia!

Saban raves about Smart!
Today is Sunday and the Georgia Bulldogs are marching to the tune of a new leader. Kirby Smart is the 26th Head coach of the Georgia football squad. The press conference is scheduled for
Monday!
Previous coach, and the current number #1 contender for the job at Miami, Mark Richt was let go for the sole failure of not winning the big one. It really did take balls to let Richt go, he was loved by a whole lot of people. If a person stays around long enough he will see his boss and even his supporters turn against him, it happens.

Hopefully Kirby was watching, because anything less than the same (or better success) that Bama has had is the only thing that will be acceptable to the University and the people of Georgia. That means either win the NC or hit the road. They will not give Kirby the time that Richt had. He was the first, favorite, and really the only choice of  Georgia AD Greg McGarity. "It's an honor and privilege to return home. I am deeply appreciative to lead one of the truly great college football teams in the country." Nick Saban raves about him and as we all know Saban is far more prone to rants than raves.
Smart inherits, if not a championship caliber roster, then one that is very, very close. Richt's downfall has not been recruiting. He will be in one of the most fertile states for talent in America. It is all handed to him on a silver platter.
A "memorandom of understanding" unsigned by Smart as of today states:
  • Base salery of $400,000 per year, with a total compensation package of $3.7 mil. per year.
  • A buyout clase of $7.1 million after 3 years
  • $1.6 million in bonuses, including $400,000 for winning the SEC Championship and 1 million for the National Championship

Only time can tell whether Georgia has got them a Vince Dooley or a Ray Goff. But for today, the band marches on gaily!
